MOI TEACHING AND REFERRAL HOSPITAL HOLDS ITS 9TH GRADUATION CEREMONY

Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) on 29th November, 2019 held its 9th graduation ceremony where 449 students were conferred diplomas and certificates in various clinical fields.

In the ceremony graced by Ag. Director, Health in the Ministry of Health Dr. John Wekesa Masasabi, the college rolled out experts in Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Health Records, Orthopaedics, Mortician Services and Anaesthetic Assistants who are ready to go into the job market and serve the Country.

MTRH College of Health Sciences is a rising middle level institution located in MTRH and admits students from across the Country. Dr. Willson K. Aruasa, MBS while speaking at the graduation ceremony said MTRH College of Health Sciences is training experts whose skills are shaping the new approach of healthcare in not only Western Kenya but the entire Country.

Dr. Aruasa said the approaches in health today are strategic interventions, saying medical personnel can only reach more needy people by taking the services to the them. The CEO said that one has to have a big heart in all they do,saying employers not only look for technical skills, but also soft skills of humanness. And that all the graduands and serving staff should work as though there was only one more day. And that the reason we exist is to make a positive difference to humanity and lessen human sufferings.

The number of graduands today was 449.He noted that MTRH has just concluded the Landslide intervention in West Pokot where 40 medics penetrated inaccessible villages which were cut off by torrential rains. He said these are the type of Health professionals trained by Moi Teaching and Referral College of Health Sciences.

The Chief Guest Dr. John Wekesa Masasabi urged the graduates to take their professions seriously, saying the Country needs them to provide services that guarantee the people good health.

Dr. Masasabi pointed out that the Ministry of Health is working with MTRH to lead the way in Training, Innovation and Intervention in many critical areas. Board Chairman Hon. Godana Doyo in his remarks noted that the Hospital Board will implement all Strategic plans the Hospital is undertaking to position MTRH as the leader in Health in the Region.

The Chief Officer for Health, West Pokot County Ms. Milcah Psiwa who was following up on the landslide patients admitted in MTRH thanked the Hospital for great leadership.

She said MTRH represented the Government as a leader in Healthcare, noting that the Hospital’s presence in the affected area is incomparable.

Principal, Prof. Kuremu Tenge; Ag. Senior Director Clinical Services, Dr. Saratiel Nyabera; Ag. Senior Director Administration and Finance Mathews Birgen; Director Health Administration, Christine Tonui and Director, College of Health Sciences, Mr. Caleb Koech.
