National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF)Board Chair, Madam Hannah W. Muriithi, EBS has lauded Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for the strategic role it plays in ensuring that Kenyans get quality healthcare services at the Hospital. Madam Muriithi while leading the NHIF team on a two-day get-to-know your strategic partner/ client visit to MTRH with her high level team noted that the Hospital leadership has greatly streamlined processes which makes it easy for patients to access NHIF services especially during discharge.
The Team whose key mission was to deepen existing partnership and identify new areas of working together,was impressed. The Chair noted that her team would also look at ways to address challenges faced by MTRH as regards patients using NHIF cover .
While receiving the visitors in the CEO’s Boardroom on 10th May, 2019, Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa, MBS informed NHIF delegation that the partnership MTRH has with the Agency is of great importance and that MTRH values its work to Kenyans through the Hospital.
The CEO highlighted the high standard structures of MTRH that have made service delivery unparalleled in the Country. “While good structures at MTRH play a pivotal role in service delivery, it is important to note that our highly motivated and quality driven staff are the number one ambassadors of our excellent services” Dr. Aruasa said.
He noted that Hospital staff have interacted with NHIF personnel, a relationship that has ensured quality services . He also pointed out that there is need to increase the numbers of NHIF Quality Assurance(QA) field officers.
In her remarks, NHIF Board Chair said there is need to engage with MTRH in some areas without invoking legal parameters. She noted that the two organizations will look at short term interventions, mid term as well as other strategic partnerships to make services more seamless. She asked MTRH to record challenges faced and furnish NHIF ,saying her Team would be enriched during this get-to-know your strategic partner /client visit to MTRH.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Aruasa made a request on
an NHIF cover for post-kidney transplant medications be developed,
cover for various procedures like bone marrow aspiration which are not currently available and efficiency on the pre-authorization prior to patient’s admission.
Other requests CEO made include working towards both MTRH and NHIF staff dealing with patient NHIF insurance covers to sit together in the same room to improve efficiency. Dr. Aruasa further noted that joint working on proper NHIF and MTRH signages and directions are paramount.
During the tour of the Hospital, the CEO together with members of Senior Management led the visitors to Renal, Haemato-Oncology, Radiology, Laboratory, Maternity and Children services which are fully covered by NHIF packages.
The NHIF Team comprised of the Board Chair, Mrs. Hannah W. Muriithi, EBS; Board Member Mr. Joseph Mwaura; Valentine Morogo, Regional Manager North Rift and Karen Kandie, the Deputy Branch Manager-Eldoret.
The Hospital team led by the CEO, Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa, MBS included: Senior Director Clinical Services, Dr. S. Nyabera; Senior Director, Administration & Finance, Dr. B. Tarus; Director , Reproductive Health, Dr. P. Kirwa; Director Nursing, Mr. T. Tarus; Director Paediatrics and Child Life, Dr. P. Mandi and various Hospital staff.
