Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) Regional Blood Transfusion Centre yesterday Friday, 14th June, 2019 joined the rest of the world in marking this year’s World Blood Donor Day by conducting health information talks and a blood donation drive in Eldoret town.
The 2019 World Blood Donor day campaign is aimed at focusing on blood donation and universal access to safe blood transfusion, encouraging people to become donors and donate regularly.
The day serves to thank voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and also to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations. This is done to ensure that all individuals and communities have access to affordable and timely supplies of safe and quality-assured blood and blood products, which is an integral part of Universal Health Coverage and a key component of effective health systems.
Most healthy people can give blood. To donate blood, one must weigh between 50kg and 160kg. You will not be allowed to donate if you are sick, suffering from an infection, pregnant or on certain medication.
The 2019 theme is “Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life.”[responsivevoice_button voice=”UK English Female” buttontext=”Listen to Post”]
