The Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Health Dr. Rashid Abdi Aman and the Ag. Director General-Health Dr. Patrick Amoth today 9th October, 2020 toured Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in a visit that saw official opening of the Hospital’s new Biosafety Laboratory- The MTRH WB BSL II.
Dr. Aman, who later gave the National update of the National COVID-19 statistics for the last 24 hours from Ziwa Sub County Hospital said the Government is focused on control of Breast Cancer in the country. In Kenya, Cancer remains the third leading cause of mortality after infectious diseases and cardiovascular diseases.
Dr. Aman said both external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy for cancers would be offered by MTRH before end of December 2020, a milestone he noted is an impressive development on Cancer Control in Kenya.
“Kenyans from Western Region of Kenya and those from neighbouring Countries of Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan will be treated from MTRH.
The CAS lauded the Hospital’s Management for leading in renowned Healthcare innovations that the Country is banking on.
Hospital CEO Dr. Wilson Aruasa, MBS, said MTRH is collaborating with the Counties in the Western Region by offering expert training for building human resources capacity in County hospitals. The CEO said that MTRH will deal with complex cases and carry out relevant research which informs effective quality healthcare provision. He urged County hospitals to only refer deserving cases to MTRH.
While mentioning MTRH’s unique approach on leadership, Dr. Aman praised the collaboration between the Hospital and leading Educational Institutions (both nationally and internationally) which has translated to good services offered by MTRH.
Those present were: CECM -Health Uasin Gishu County Evelyn Rotich, Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Mr. Stephen Kihara and the entire MTRH Management led by the Board Chairman Hon. Joseph Lagat.
