28 patients benefited from a 5-day Neuro-Spine Camp held from 18th -22nd June, 2018 at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).
The complex operations focused on tumours, spinal injuries and degenerative conditions.
One patient with compressive Osteoporotic Spinal fracture, a complex surgery, benefited from the surgery and is recuperating at the Neurosurgery Ward.
Dr. Yoo, a Neurosurgeon from Cancer Associates for Research and Excellence (cCARE) in San Diego, USA, led the local team in conducting the operations.
The local team comprised; Dr. Godffrey Wasike, Dr. Mohan Nilesh , Dr. Barnabas Boen and Dr. Sydney Rono.
Dr. Yoo said: "My greatest satisfaction comes when a patient who has been suffering for long comes back to me after surgery, very happy and satisfied that their problems are much better."
Dr. Yoo treats brain and spinal disorders including trauma, tumors and degenerative conditions.
He specializes in surgery for traumatic brain and spine injuries as well as cervical and lumbar artificial disc replacement surgery.
The visiting Neurosurgeon also donated assorted medical items to MTRH which were received by the Director of Surgery, Dr. Saratiel Nyabera.
Last year, 45 patients from a Neurosurgery Camp held in partnership with North Carolina Spine and Associates and Stryker Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, based in USA.
MTRH has a 45-bed Neurosurgery Ward complete with ; a four-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependendency Unit (HDU).
MTRH CEO, Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa, said that the Neuro-Spine camp will be an annual event.
Dr. Aruasa added that MTRH welcomes partners and medical specialists, both local and International, for collaboration across all medical disciplines to improve on service delivery to Kenyans.
