MTRH offers Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A) and Intravitreal Avastin Injections for Macular Oedema as Routine Outpatient Procedures

In our continued effort for the provision of Excellent Service Delivery, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital’s (MTRH) Ophthalmology Unit Centre of Excellence is the only public facility in East & Central Africa that offers Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) and Intravitreal Avastin injections for Macular Oedema as routine outpatient procedures.

OCT-A is a non-invasive technique for imaging the eye in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of macular and optic nerve eye diseases.
An OCT scan can show any immediate eye problems or early onset of eye diseases. It can also help us to monitor the condition of a patient’s eyes in the long term.
Macular edema is the build-up of fluid in the macula (an area in the center of the eye’s retina) which causes it to swell and thicken. This fluid build-up can leak and affect vision, eventually causing vision loss.
Treatment and management are covered under NHIF upon pre-authorization and highly subsidized for self-paying clients.
MTRH is dedicated to providing in support of the Universal Health Coverage Agenda.
