BOARD CHAIRMAN AND HOSPITAL CEO WELCOME FOUR NEW BOARD MEMBERS TO MTRH

Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) Board Chairman, Hon. Doyo Godana and Hospital CEO Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa, MBS today 16th December, 2019 welcomed four newly appointed Board Members.

Hon. Joseph Lagat, Dr. Martin Sirengo, Mr. Idle Muhamud and Mr. Mark Lugwisa now join the Hospital Board in providing the Strategic Oversight function that is driving all Hospital operations.

The oversight role of the Board is performed through Board committees that include; Audit, Risk, and Compliance Committees.

While welcoming the New Members, Board Chairman said the four members are joining an Institution which is a trend setter in healthcare in Kenya and beyond. Hon. Godana said because of the services it provides, MTRH is unique as its approach now includes interventions in disasters such as the West Pokot Landslide.

The Chief Executive Officer congratulated the four Board Members, saying they are Joining MTRH, which is the leader in the National Referral Health System in the Country. Dr. Aruasa said the Hospital operates under Core Values that include; Customer Focus, Ethical Conduct, Personal and Institutional
Integrity and Honesty,
Clinical and Operational Excellence and Teamwork. He said the pillars are driving excellent work ethic that all staff adhere to when offering services.

The CEO said MTRH covers 22 Counties in Rift Valley and entire Western Kenya with a population of 25 million people, and going with that huge population, the function of the Hospital is so strategic.

He noted that the Board is central in the operations of the Hospital, having recently made a timely appointment of the Chief Information Officer.

The CEO also enumerated the ISO Standards that the Hospital is certified in, saying it is the demonstration of the journey MTRH has taken in provision of Quality Healthcare.

“We have also taken the leadership role to mentor our Partners on health-the County Hospitals where we send our nursing team and receive County nurses in MTRH. This, we want to ensure we mentor County Hospitals so that they take management of cases that should not be brought to MTRH.”

Aside from the Strategic partners that include, Moi University, Indiana University and other International partners, the other key Strategic partner of the Hospital is National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF). Dr. Aruasa said 80% of Revenue the Hospital gets comes from NHIF.

The CEO informed the new Board Members that their coming into the Hospital, is timely as the MTRH is about to roll out the Children Burns Hospital and Paediatric Oncology Hospital. The two stand alone Hospitals will be build near the Shoe4Africa Children Hospital. The two will project MTRH to a level that has no equal in the African Continent.

For all these developments to happen, Dr. Aruasa said stable leadership is key. He said that is what every sector in the Country needs for people to get quality services. The CEO also enumerated the high stake success of MTRH laboratories which process 1 million quality Lab tests per year, saying that has become possible with the strategic support the Hospital Board is giving.

While making their maiden speeches, all the four New Board members expressed their readiness to provide their advice and leadership experiences in shaping the business of the biggest Referral Hospital in Kenya-MTRH.

The new Board Members where later taken through a tour of the entire Hospital to familiarise themselves with daily patient operations.

Present in the entire process were: Senior Director, Clinical Services Dr. Philip Kirwa, Senior Director Administration and Finance Dr. Tarus B. Kipchumba, Chief of Party- AMPATHPlus, Prof. Sylvester Kimaiyo, Director Health Administration, Christine Tonui, Director Paediatrics Dr. Polycarp Mandi, Director Reproductive Health Dr. Wycliffe Kosgei, Director Hemato Oncology Dr. Jesse Opakas, and Director Diagnostics, Dr. Ezekiel Kimutai.

Also present were; Director, MTRH College of Health Sciences Mr. Caleb Koech, Director Commercial Services Dr. Stephen Ondigo, Legal Officer Sylvia Nyariki, Principal Security Officer, Evans Yogo, Heads of Departments and Health Administrators.
