Hospital hosts Fourth MTRH- Counties’ Forum

Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) today hosted its fourth Counties’ /Stakeholders Forum.The function which brought together representatives from 22 Counties was held at the Boma Inn Hotel, Eldoret.

The Director of Medical Services , Dr. Jackson Kioko, who was the Chief Guest lauded the Hospital for hosting the forum for the fourth consecutive time.He urged the participants to take stock of resolutions and successes of the previous discussions.

Dr. Kioko asked MTRH to strictly concentrate on the specialized medical/ surgical conditions while the Counties deal with primary health care. “I urge Kenyatta National Hospital and MTRH to just deal with specialized medical/surgical conditions and the County Hospitals to handle primary healthcare such as Immunization. ”

“This will decongest the two National Referral Hospitals” he said.

The DMS further urged Consultants to be available to provide services to the people.He reiterated that referrals should have the input of Consultants or Senior Medical Officers rather than self referrals which result to unnecessary congestion.

Uasin Gishu County Governor, Jackson Mandago asked MTRH to offer proper sensitization on Organ Donation which will help patients in dire need of organ transplantation.

He further recommended to the Hospital Board for consideration of rotation between MTRH Medical Officers, Nurses, Registrars and Consultants with that from Uasin Gishu as part of capacity building.

The Governor asked the Ministry of Health and National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to ensure only accurate claims are paid.

MTRH Board Chair, Godana Doyo assured that the Board of Management will continue to support Counties through such fora.

He challenged the Hospital team to undertake several organ transplants such as Heart, Bone Marrow, and Liver Transplants.

Hospital CEO, Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa said that MTRH will focus on specialized referrals and assured that the entire Hospital Management will fully support the Counties in various capacities such as training and research.

Dr. Aruasa applauded the participants for finding time to attend the crucial forum.

Present during the function were KNH Board Chair David Kimaiyo, KNH CEO representative Dr. Innocent Maranga, Uasin Gishu County Health CEC Evelyn Rotich, NHIF Branch Manager, Eldoret Mr. Andrew Kutto and Chief of Party AMPATH Prof. Sylvester Kimaiyo.
