The Hospital\u2019s Eye Unit was established in the year 1989 and officially opened by the then Minister of Health and the third President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Mwai Kibaki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ophthalmology unit has a 20-bed in-patient facility (Elgon Ward), a 2-table eye theatre and an optical shop. The unit offers both outpatient and in-patient services for both general and specialized ophthalmology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The general services include;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The specialized services are;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Some of the major conditions that are treated and managed at the Eye Unit include; cataracts, eye injuries, glaucoma, eye tumors and cancers, squints, eye infections, corneal disorders (i.e. Keratoconus), retinal conditions (i.e. diabetic retinopathy) and ocular allergies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n World Sight Day <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n Held on the second Thursday of October, annually, is a day of creating awareness to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment.
