[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) started in 1917 with a bed capacity of 60 catering mainly for the health needs of Africans. It later served as a District Hospital before attaining referral status through Legal Notice Number 78 of 12th June, 1998 under State Corporations Act, Cap 446 Laws of Kenya; updated\/ amended through Legal Notice Number 56 of 18th April, 2002 and Legal Notice Number 40 of 1st March, 2021<\/p>\n\n

It is located along Nandi Road in Eldoret Town, Uasin Gishu County (310Kilometers Northwest of Nairobi).MTRH is a Multi-Specialty International Teaching and Referral Hospital serving Kenya,parts of Eastern Uganda, South Sudan, Northern Tanzania, and Democratic Republic of Congo with a population of over 25 million. MTRH is also a critical player in advancing the Government\u2019s Bottom-Up Economic Transformational Agenda (BETA), Kenya Vision 2030 \u2013 Social Pillar and Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
\nMTRH is a Teaching Hospital for Moi University College of Health Sciences; both Undergraduate Medical Students and Masters in Medicine Specialist programs with
\nover 240 post graduate students (Registrars) distributed across several programs. A number of other Medical Training Institutions utilize MTRH as their Training Centre.
\nThe specialized services offered range from Cochlear transplants, Kidney transplants, Corneal transplants, Open Heart surgeries, Spine and Neurosurgical operations, and Arthroscopic (Shoulder and Knee) surgeries, Cardiology and Cardiothoracic services, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services, Oncology services, and Alcohol & Drug Abuse rehabilitative services. Others are Postpartum Intrauterine Devices (PPIUD) and 24 hours Trauma Surgeries. These specialized services are in line with Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Kenya\u2019s pledge to make advanced healthcare accessible to all. Over the years the Hospital has realized exponential growth in infrastructural development and modernization of equipment, number of patients being attended to, complexity of their diagnosis, medical sub-specialties and a large pool of Human Resources for Health (HRH).<\/p>\n

MTRH has continued to sustain Strategic Partnerships and Alliances with the Ministry of Health and Development Partners e.g Indiana University (USA) and Duke (USA), University of Toronto (Canada), Suez Canal University (Egypt); Shoe4Africa Foundation, New York (USA); University of Linkoping (Sweden); Doctor to Doctor
\nFoundation (Amsterdam, Netherlands) Stellenbosch University and University of Cape Town (South Africa) among others.<\/p>\n\n\n

    <\/ol>\n\n

    The partnerships have resulted in the Centres of Excellence: Chandaria Cancer and Chronic Diseases Centre (CCCDC), Shoe4Africa Children\u2019s Hospital, Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), Riley Mother and Baby Hospital (RMBH with Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH), 62-Bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a Modern 80-Bed Mental Health Unit, 34-Bed Haemodialysis Unit and capacity building for staff in various Specialties.
    \nThe Shoe4Africa Children\u2019s Hospital is the only public Children\u2019s Hospital in Eastern Africa. It is a complete Hospital that addresses all the childhood diseases with its own Theatres, ICU, Oncology Unit among other services while AMPATH is the largest single HIV\/AIDS treatment Centre in Africa with over 180,000 patients enrolled for HIV care.
    \nThese services are provided by a well-trained, dedicated and skilled workforce which has seen MTRH become the first public Hospital to have successfully transitioned from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System. MTRH Laboratory is also accredited to ISO 15189:2012 Medical Laboratories Standard by Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS).Through the support of the National Government, MTRH is seeking to construct a modern 2,000-bed Multi-Specialty Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Kiplombe.<\/p>\n

    TEACHING AND RESEARCH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

    MTRH is also continuously working towards generating new knowledge by closely working with the Moi University College of Health Sciences and other collaborators. These research efforts have informed policy in areas such as HIV, Chronic Disease Management and Oncology besides providing innovative approaches to delivery of quality healthcare.
    \nThrough various partnerships, we have been able to get support in infrastructure development and training of medical sub-specialists, nurses and other staff cadres. Our active outreach programs target education and screening for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) for early detection and intervention. The Chandaria Cancer and Chronic Diseases Centre (CCCDC) provides quality care for a wide range of NCDs.<\/p>\n\n

    MTRH has a fully-fledged College of Medicine with a complement of 1,200 students at any given time. The College provides specialized training to healthcare providers in Health Leadership, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Rehabilitation Speech-Language Therapy, Health Records, Orthopedics, Wound Care Management, Mortician Services and Anesthetic Assistants.
    \nThe Hospital also hosts Residency\/Collegiate Trainings including College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) in Orthopedics & Trauma Surgery,General Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Neurosurgery; East, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians (ECSACOP); College of Anesthesiology of East, Central and Southern Africa (CANECSA); and College of Ophthalmology of Eastern, Central and Southern Africa (COECSA) amongst other disciplines.<\/p>\n
