{"id":292,"date":"2023-12-11T14:34:54","date_gmt":"2023-12-11T11:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mtrh.go.ke\/?page_id=292"},"modified":"2023-12-11T14:34:57","modified_gmt":"2023-12-11T11:34:57","slug":"physiotherapy-department","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mtrh.go.ke\/?page_id=292","title":{"rendered":"Physiotherapy Department"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Physiotherapy at MTRH is among Departments under the Directorate of Mental Health and Rehabilitative Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has forty one (41) qualified staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Physiotherapy is a health care profession concerned with human function, movement and maximizing physical potential. It identifies and maximizes quality of life and movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment\/intervention, habilitation and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It uses physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being, taking into account variations in health status.&nbsp; It is science-based, committed to extending, applying, evaluating and reviewing the evidence that underpins and informs its practice and delivery.&nbsp; The exercise of clinical judgement and informed interpretation is at its core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, physiotherapy in MTRH focuses on the prevention of complications and improvement of the patient\u2019s condition, including respiratory function and mobility. The hospital physiotherapists perform an initial functional assessment for the purpose of recommending an appropriate framework for further treatment and promoting the continuum of care, including rehabilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The physiotherapy service in the hospital contributes to the patient\u2019s recovery and return to mobility, and function in active life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In geriatric, physiotherapy work focuses on maintaining and improving the elderly patient\u2019s functional status, with an emphasis on maintaining functional independence to the extent that is possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The physiotherapy treatment is performed as part of the multi-disciplinary treatment among other professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Aims of Physiotherapy in the Hospital<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Prevention of&nbsp;Complications<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; Respiratory treatment, mobilization and activity, with the objective of minimizing complications resulting from the operation, anesthesia or immobility. Additionally, the treatment contributes to the prevention of deterioration and\/or exacerbation of the pre-hospitalization medical condition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Promotion of Function and Mobility<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; Activation, strengthening and mobilization of the patient in order to enable resumption of maximal function and independence, using accessories if needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Functional Assessment<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; Carrying out a functional assessment to recommend an appropriate framework for further treatment and promote the continuum of care, including rehabilitation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Advice and Health education<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; Instructions for independent exercises and activity, to shorten the duration of recovery and promote general health.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>MTRH Physiotherapy Department comprises of the following units:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Physiotherapy outpatient services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Private wing I and II for both Inpatient and Outpatient.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This unit attends to corporate clients<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Surgical wards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical wards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cardiac Unit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Riley Mother and Baby Hospital (Obstetrics) and Gynecology wards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shoe4Africa (Pediatrics)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intensive Care Unit( ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This unit is open 24 hours daily<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neonatal ICU (NICU).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Isolation Centre of Excellence<a><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department participates actively in both local and International sports by providing support to Team Doctors and the travelling sports itinerary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Physiotherapy at MTRH is among Departments under the Directorate of Mental Health and Rehabilitative Services.
