{"id":4340,"date":"2025-08-14T18:24:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T15:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mtrh.go.ke\/?p=4340"},"modified":"2025-08-19T11:29:27","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T08:29:27","slug":"interventional-radiology-simulator-marks-major-step-towards-expanding-interventional-radiology-access-in-kenya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mtrh.go.ke\/?p=4340","title":{"rendered":"Interventional Radiology Simulator Marks Major Step Towards Expanding Interventional Radiology Access in Kenya"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), in partnership with Siemens Healthineers, Elsmed Kenya, and AMPATH, on Tuesday celebrated the donation of a state-of-the-art Mentice simulator\u2014a milestone in strengthening access to Interventional Radiology (IR) in Kenya.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200eThe simulator will be used to train clinicians on minimally invasive procedures that offer safer and more efficient treatment options for patients.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200eInterventional Radiology uses imaging to guide treatments through tiny incisions, offering a less invasive alternative to conventional surgery.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200eIt plays a critical role in managing conditions such as abscesses, trauma-related internal bleeding, diabetic vascular disease, uterine fibroids, and cancer\u2014where techniques like embolization can block blood flow to tumors.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200eThese procedures typically result in less pain, fewer complications, and faster recovery, often eliminating the need for hospital stays; leading to better outcomes for patients, and reduced strain on the healthcare system.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200eThe Mentice simulator will support hands-on training and is part of a broader initiative to establish a Centre of Excellence in Interventional Radiology at MTRH, alongside the development of a university-level curriculum to train future IR specialists through Moi University College of Health Sciences.\u200e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200eMTRH CEO Dr. Philip Kirwa affirmed that the IR Centre of Excellence will immensely improve the skills and Human Resources for Health through the trainings and mentorship programs.\u200e<br>&#8220;These efforts align with MTRH\u2019s vision to provide exceptional multi-specialty care,&#8221;
