{"id":5141,"date":"2025-11-20T10:53:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T07:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mtrh.go.ke\/?p=5141"},"modified":"2025-11-23T11:03:50","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T08:03:50","slug":"moi-teaching-and-referral-hospital-conducts-16-successful-duhamel-pull-through-surgeries-at-shoe4africa-childrens-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mtrh.go.ke\/?p=5141","title":{"rendered":"Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Conducts 16 Successful Duhamel Pull-Through Surgeries at Shoe4Africa Children\u2019s Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) conducted 16 successful Duhamel pull-through surgeries under the Pediatric Pull-Through Surgery Project, carried out from November 3rd to 7th, 2025, at Shoe4Africa Children\u2019s Hospital.<br>\u200e<br>\u200eThe initiative aimed at providing specialized treatment for children suffering from Hirschsprung\u2019s disease. This is a rare congenital birth defect that affects the large intestine, making it difficult for the body to pass stool normally, and often requires expert surgical care to manage effectively.<br>\u200e<br>\u200eThe surgical mission was led by Dr. Peter Saula, Consultant Pediatric Surgeon at MTRH, supported by a multidisciplinary team of anaesthetists, theatre nurses, pediatric specialists, and post-operative care staff.<br>\u200e<br>\u200eSpeaking shortly after the final procedure, Dr. Saula highlighted the significance of the project in expanding access to advanced pediatric surgical care in the region.<br>\u200e<br>\u200e \u201cThis program has given sixteen (16) children a chance of healthier, pain-free lives.
