Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) this week, partnered with 2nd Chance Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Program to perform reconstructive surgeries on fourteen(14) patients.

\u200eUnder this Program, Plastic Surgeons from eighteen (18) countries in Europe and Africa rotate in fourteen African countries to empower local plastic surgery specialists, do reconstructive surgeries and also extend some monetary support to cover medical bills.
\u200e
\u200eThe Program also trains surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
\u200e
\u200eDr. Amanda Malungo and Dr. Alec Gonga who led the local specialists said the 14 patients-adults and peadiatrics, benefited from the five-day camp.
\u200e
\u200e”This year’s medical camp successfully provided life-changing reconstructive surgeries to 14 patients, offering renewed hope and improved quality of life to individuals and their families” said Dr. Amanda.
\u200e
\u200eMTRH Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Philip Kirwa, pointed out that the Department of Plastic Surgery is among the fastest-growing specialties at MTRH and reaffirmed the Hospital’s commitment to supporting vulnerable patients requiring reconstructive procedures through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program.

\u200eDr. Kirwa said together, MTRH and 2nd Chance, continue to expand access to quality reconstructive surgical care while building sustainable local expertise, transforming lives, and strengthening the future of plastic and reconstructive surgery, not only in Kenya but in Entire East African Region.

\u200eThe 2nd Chance delegation was led by Dr. Thomas Fischer, Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon, alongside Dr. Claudia Pia Fischlin, Chief Physician and Co-Head of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, both from Switzerland.
