MTRH COMMEMORATES WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY
The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes Patient Safety as a serious global public health issue estimated to be the fourteenth (14) leading cause of the global disease burden. It defines patient safety practices as processes or structures that reduce the probability of adverse events resulting from exposure to the healthcare systems.
Patient safety is therefore a fundamental element of quality healthcare in the delivery of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) joined the world today in commemorating the World Patient Safety Day that was established by Member States at the 72nd World Health Assembly in May 2019. This day is marked every year on 17th September.
MTRH has a fully fledged Clinical Governance Department where Patient Safety unit is embedded. It is where the quality of care standards are developed and reviewed.
While celebrating this day, the unit, led by their In charge; Mr. James Leboo sensitized departments on the importance of patient safety- recognition of medical errors and reporting whenever it occurs, learning from the errors, and emphasis to all staff on adherance to set policies, guidelines and standards that protects patients from harm as this would result in quality health care delivery.
