MTRH LABORATORY RECEIVES ISO 15189:2012 ACCREDITATION 

Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) Laboratory today received accreditation certificate to ISO 15189:2012 Standard, a milestone that places the Hospital’s Laboratory Services at par with World Class Laboratories.
 
This journey began in 2012. Accreditation in medical Laboratory services is a preferred framework for building quality medical laboratory systems that are targeted to result in quality tests. 
 
Joining World class accredited Laboratories, MTRH Laboratory is even more accountable to the requirements of customers and gaining the international recognition that goes with top notch quality of healthcare services that MTRH provides. 
 
While officiating this important occasion the Chief Guest, Mr. Martin Chesire, Chief Executive Officer of Kenya National Accreditation (KENAS), noted that in achieving this  accreditation, MTRH has given the greatest testimony that its laboratory services has come through thorough improvements over the years that formed the journey, and to the point of receiving the Certification.
 
Mr.Chesire said during the assessment period undertaken in December 14th 2018,  the inspectors noted that the Hospital met all standards set by KENAS, and further reported that MTRH Laboratories  now  work on the same standards of accredited Laboratories in the World. He said Commitment and Continual Improvement which are the key ingredients for an Institution’s Capacity to Change are what drives MTRH journey ,not only in Laboratory accreditation but also in other standards.
 
“This is not an easy achievement, it takes great effort of personal sacrifice by the staff of MTRH laboratory, the staff in all other units of the Hospital and more as is seen in the personal sacrifice by the Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa.”
 
Through the Standard, the Chief Guest said the Hospital has now shaped the culture of service delivery in healthcare, and has the capacity to change more going forward.
 
While making his remarks, Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa said MTRH fraternity as a whole starting with Apex of the Leadership –The Hospital Board, the Top Management and the Core Pillar-the staff are now looking into the future in the journey to position MTRH well, which is already a world class hospital. 
 
“Our focus now is to sustain the good work; learn from any areas of improvement in all services so that the Hospital continues to serve the patients well, ” said Dr. Aruasa.
 
The CEO thanked the Hospital Board whose policy direction and resolutions have enabled realization of its Vision.
 
“We have no competitor in Kenya now and where MTRH is moving to is to serve the rest of the African Continent and eventually the whole World, ” said Dr. Aruasa. 
 
The CEO thanked the entire staff fraternity for the synergy, zeal towards work that sometimes goes beyond normal working hours, and their readiness to improve in all areas of weakness.  He said the readiness to always improve their work is what has driven the Hospital this far like no other Hospital in the Country.
 
MTRH Board Chair Hon. Doyo Godana praised the upward rise of the Hospital and assured that the board will continue to support the Management in the journey. The Principal Secretary, Ministry of Health in her speech read by Dr. Simon Kibias said the Ministry will continue supporting MTRH as it scales the heights of standardizing its service delivery.
 
MTRH Laboratory has a workload volume of 2 (two) million tests per year.  It has a sufficient highly trained human resource of 174 officers, who possess varied specializations that are a crucial component in ensuring utmost quality of results.  
 
Guests present included Deputy Governor,  County Government of Uasin Gishu- Daniel Chemno, CEC Health, Ms. Everline Rotich, Deputy Chief of Party, AMPATH Plus, Dr. Samson Ndege, MTRH Directors among others.
