MTRH Marks World Kidney Day
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital today on 14th March, 2019 joined the rest of the world in marking World Kidney Day at the Hospital’s Memorial Grounds.
The event which is observed on the 2nd Thursday of March every year is meant to create awareness of the high burden of kidney disease globally.
This year’s theme is “Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere.”
Hospital’s Paediatric Nephrologist Dr. Kipkurui Cheptinga reiterated the importance of the day which aims at sharing on prevention , early detection and slowing of Kidney diseases amongst the people.
He encouraged the adoption of healthy lifestyles, routine exercises, healthy diet, clean water and tobacco control.
Dr. Cheptinga further said screening of kidney diseases should be made a primary objective and ensure kidney patients receive basic health services.
Of late, cases of kidney diseases have highly increased and the burden has become unbearable. This calls for crucial awareness, proper strategies to be put in place for prevention and management.
Kidney Health for everyone everywhere bellows for universal health coverage towards prevention and upt treatment for kidney diseases.
Some of the activities which took place in the grounds included: Blood Pressure check, Weight check, Blood Sugar check, Urine check and nutritional advise.
