MTRH/NNAK Mark Nurses and Midwifery Week
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) today 3rd May, 2023 marked the International Nurses and Midwives Week to celebrate the role of Nurses and Midwives in patient care.
While presiding over the event at Riley Mother and Baby Hospital (RMBH), MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa, MBS, EBS lauded the Hospital’s Nursing Officers for being Team Leaders in provision of quality patient care.
Dr. Aruasa called on the nursing fraternity in the Hospital to support and mentor students under them as they undertake their rotation program.
The theme of the event is : ” Our Nurses our Future” and is marked the world over.
The Kenyan Chapter of the Nurses and Midwives Week was launched in Kitui County on Friday 28th April, 2023.
Nurses and Midwives week is a function practiced over the years by institutions as a reciprocatory gesture to the community through a series of activities.
Florence Nightingale in 1854 during the Crimean War championed this philosophy of compassionate care on the sick and from then, the message has been carried along for ages and eventually impacting positively on millions of people. She is the founder of quality healthcare.
The CEO also called on all staff to embrace a reading culture which translates into better understanding of one’s purpose and service to humanity.
Dr. Aruasa lauded Moi University School of Medicine students for always being with the patients and their family during the tenure of rotation in the wards and clinics.
He urged all other students to emulate their colleagues saying the key is to have empathy, friendliness and soft skills in service.
Those present during the celebrations were; MTRH Directors Nursing Services Mr.Titus Tarus & Reproductive Health Dr. Wycliffe Kosgei, Dr. Dinah Chelagat Dean School of Nursing, Moi University and Deputy Director Nursing, Uasin Gishu County Ms . Betty Chirchir.
Also present were representatives from KMTC Eldoret Campus-Philomena Belio, NNAK Chair MTRH Branch -Emmy Sirma, NNAK Uasin Gishu County-Ms. Carolyne Chemoiywo, MAK Uasin Gishu, MTRH and Moi University Chair David Kogo, KNUN official Beatrice Chelule, and MTRH Nurses Welfare Chair- Mr. Boaz Too.
Johnson and Johnson officials graced the event and gifted mothers in the Labour Ward.
