MTRH CEO Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa, MBS, for the 2nd day, Wednesday 28th August, 2019 moderated the Performance Management process for remaining Directorates and Departments; Mental Health and Rehabilitative Services, Commercial Services, Health Administration, Finance, Human Resource Management and Development, MTRH College of Health Sciences, Moi-Institutional Research Ethics Committee (IREC), Research Sponsored Projects Office (RSPO), Internal Audit, Quality Assurance, ISO Secretariat, Supply Chain, Legal, Projects Coordination, Health Administrative Officer-Chief Executive Officer’s Office, Information Communication & Technology (ICT), Health Records Information Services, Telephone Services, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Corporate Communications and MTRH Liaison Office.

In his introductory remarks, Dr. Aruasa reiterated adherence to the pillars that drive quality services in the Hospital and urged all staff to uphold personal integrity, teamwork, efficiency and ensure compliance to the core values of MTRH.

“Adhere to the Human Resource Instruments: Human Resource Policy and Procedures Manual, Organizational Structure and Career Progression Guidelines. Once staff follow these guidelines, then their work will be seamless and free of problems,” he said.

Every Directorate/Department highlighted their Strategic Level Interventions towards UHC which included: working closely with the twenty two (22) Counties across Western Kenya Region, including Uasin Gishu County, through staff exchange programs, mentorship, outreaches and preceptorships.

Still on UHC, MTRH will scale up training at the MTRH College of Health Sciences by having more courses on sub-specialities; Higher National Diploma (HND) – Clinical Medicine- in Chronic Diseases Management, Paediatrics and Child Health, Mental Health & Physchiatry and Medical Oncology. The College will also train Higher Diploma in Nursing in the following disciplines; Critical Care Nursing, Nephrology Nursing, Perioperative Nursing, Emergency Care Nursing, Oncology Nursing and Psychiatry Nursing. Other courses include; Postgraduate Diploma in pharmacy and certificate courses in mortician and anaesthetic services.

The CEO further made it clear to those in attendance to verse themselves with the role of the Hospital Board in procurement. He added that the Board approves the procurement plan and the budget besides playing an oversight role in the implementation of the entire procurement process.

During the meeting, he outlined MTRH UHC deliverables as follows: provision of internships/attachments in the various Directorates/Departments in the Hospital, preceptorship to health workers in the 22 Counties, community services/population health management of HIV/AIDs and Non Communicable Diseases (NCD) e.g hypertension, cancer, diabetes and mental health disorders.

Further, the Hospital Staff working in the Medical Social Work Department, in conjunction with NHIF staff, will seek to enroll more Kenyans residing within our catchment area into NHIF.

He said MTRH will continue working with State Corporations under the Ministry of Health; National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), Kenyatta University National and Teaching Hospital (KUNTH), Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA), Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Academic Model Providing Access To Heathcare-AMPATH Plus and AMPATH.

Other institutions working closely with MTRH include Mathari National Hospital and Othaya National Hospital.

The Hospital also works closely with Moi University.

MTRH also partners with Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (MPDC) and Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK), Clinical Officers Council (COC) Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) and Radiation Protection Board (RPB).

The Hospital has also forged a close working relationship with Unions; Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN), Kenya Union of Domestic Health Educationist Industrial Health and Allied (KUDHEIHA) workers and the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO).[responsivevoice_button voice=”UK English Female” buttontext=”Listen to Post”]
