RIFT VALLEY REGIONAL COMMISSIONER VISITS LANDSLIDE PATIENT RECOVERING AT MTRH
Rift Valley Regional Commissioner , Mr. George Natembeya, visited Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) on 29th April, 2020 to wish quick recovery to one of the persons injured in the Chesegon landslide in West Pokot/Elgeyo Marakwet border.
Mr. Natembeya who led Government Recovery Mission to rescue persons buried in the ferocious mudslides that wiped Chesegon Centre, thanked MTRH for the high quality healthcare intervention that saved the lives of the six (6) patients referred to the Hospital.
MTRH dispatched a team of specialists from Psychological Counselling and Mental Health Unit to provide support to those affected by the landslides that occurred at Chesogon, on the border of Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot Counties.
During his conversation with Ms.Nancy Pyatich, who was trapped in heavy floodwater and debris for eighteen hours, Mr. Natembeya thanked MTRH for the specialized medical care she received. The patient, on her part recognized the swift recovery mission by the team led by the Regional Commissioner for airlifting her to hospital where MTRH doctors did their best to ensure she regains her health. Six other patients have been treated and discharged home.
The Regional Commissioner who later paid a courtesy call to the MTRH Board which was at the time holding a virtual meeting, lauded the Hospital’s enormous duty of leading in rescue missions in Western part of the Country, and also leading in the critical work of Controlling and Suppressing COVID-19.
The Board Chairman, Hon. Joseph K. Lagat welcomed the Regional Commissioner (RC) and thanked the National Government for its great support to MTRH especially now as the Hospital carries out COVID-19 testing.
Chief Executive Officer Dr.Wilson K. Aruasa, MBS appreciated the seamless complementary working relationship between the Regional Commissioner, all County Governments in the region and MTRH, saying it has scaled up services to residents of Western Kenya, parts of Eastern Uganda and Southern Sudan.
MTRH Board Members who were attending the Board meeting via Zoom Digital Platform, thanked the Office of the President , represented in Rift Valley by the Regional Commissioner for the support MTRH continues to receive. The Board members included Dr. Janet Muriuki, Dr. Dora Mala, Dr. Mary Wangai, Mr. Samwel Nthenge, Prof. Isaac Kosgey, Madam Constantine Kandie, Mr. Idle Mohamud, Mr. Mark Lugwisa and Mr. George Ombua.
Mr. Natembeya was accompanied during the tour by Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Mr. Abdirisack Jaldesa and Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Mr. Johnston Ipara.
