MTRH observes World Sight Day
World Sight Day (WSD) is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. This year’s WSD was on 11th October,2018 under the theme ” Eye Care Everywhere”.
MTRH celebrated this year’s WSD starting with a walk from Chandaria Cancer and Chronic Disease Centre, through Eldoret town and around the Hospital creating awareness amongst members of the public.
It has been established that many people go blind because of preventable causes. Vision 2020 which was formed in 1999 by WHO (ophthalmology) aims at ensuring people do not go blind due to preventable or treatable conditions.
Some of the ways in which Vision 2020 is achieving it’s objectives is by;
- Training more ophthamologists
- Increase cataract surgeons
- Empowerement of Clinical Officers and Nurses.
