Directorate of Pediatrics and Child Health

Based at Shoe4Africa Children Hospital, the Directorate of pediatrics and Child Health is a Centre of Excellence for both Outpatient and Inpatient services to children aged 1 day to 14 years, both medical and Surgical.

The outpatient services include; Sick Child Clinic and Specialized Clinics, a fully-equipped Emergency Department, and Operating Room (Theatre), while services offered in the inpatient units are; Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the Neuro-Burns Unit in Ushindi and Oncology care offered in Subira ward.

The Medical wards (Upendo & Tumaini),surgical ward (Fadhili) and the Prof. Lemons New Born Unit (located in RMBH).Pediatric Emergency and Ambulatory services are situated on the ground floor.

The first floor houses Pediatric Surgical services which include: Pediatric Surgery, Neurosurgery, Burns/Plastic surgery, urology, ENT and Pediatric Orthopedics. Also located on this floor is the 6-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency unit (HDU) and 2 Operating Theatres. All these subspecialty units have their specialists.

Specialists available include; General Pediatricians, Pediatric Neurologist, Pediatric Cardiologist, Pediatric Gastroenterologists, Pediatric HIV, Pediatric Nephrologist, Pediatric Haemato-Oncologist, Adolescent Pediatrician and Neonatologist.

The stand-alone Pediatric Hospital is headed by the Director, Pediatrics and Child Health, and has a multi-disciplinary team of Senior Principal Health Administrative Officer, Health Administrative Officer, Nurse Manager, Head of Departments and nurse in-charges of each Department, and section supervisors for Medical Social Work, Nutrition, Psychological Counseling, Health Records, housekeeping, pharmacy and laboratory, ICT, Corporate Communications, Biomedical Engineering, General Engineering and Physiotherapy.
