Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), signed the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that covers the Union members who are employees of MTRH.
The Ceremony was presided over by MTRH CEO, Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa and KMPDU Secretary General, Dr. Ouma Oluga.
MTRH CEO said that the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) cements the friendly working relationship and promotes sound industrial relations between the Hospital and doctors while ensuring continuous service delivery and economic well being of the members.
Dr. Aruasa in his remarks said the signing of the document is a testimony of implementation that would follow.
He reiterated that the negotiations that culminated into the signing of the CBA is the success that all parties are geared to so that the Country achieves the goals of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Investment in Human Resources for Health (HRH) is a pre-requisite in achieving Universal Health Coverage, particularly the key pillars of Access and Quality.
“MTRH believes in a culture of mediation that promotes the views and sound working relations between all parties”, he said.
The CBA highlights clearly clauses that require the doctor not only to see the patients but also to teach students in the various clinical areas. It also enumerates the employees working hours and availabity of basic amenities eg. resting and lactation rooms.
The CEO noted that MTRH will continue to build capacity in the Doctors’ body, saying their work and leadership in different cadres in the Hospital continues to deliver good results. He said MTRH, having been placed at level Six B Healthcare institution, means that our healthcare services continues to inspire many and can only be scaled higher.
In his remarks, KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Ouma Oluga congratulated MTRH Management for leadership in the health sector that is currently looked upon as a model in the entire Country.
Dr. Oluga said the signing ceremony is the ultimate fruit of good working relations between Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Management, Members of KMPDU and the entire Hospital staff.
