Catering Services Department

Nourishing Health, Delivering Excellence

The Catering Department, under the Directorate of Health Administration, is mandated to provide high-quality nutritional support through the preparation and service of premium food and beverages. At Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), we view catering not just as a service, but as a critical component of the healing process.

Our Infrastructure & Innovation

MTRH has invested in the future of hospitality with a Ksh 62 million ultramodern kitchen facility. This center of excellence is equipped with industrial-grade commercial machinery, transitioning our operations from labor-intensive methods to efficient, mechanized production.

To support environmental sustainability and occupational health, our kitchens utilize clean LPG energy, ensuring a soot-free, hygienic environment for food preparation.

Professionalism & Strategic Partnerships

We believe that exceptional service is driven by continuous learning. In a landmark collaboration with Kenya Utalii College, our entire culinary and service team recently completed intensive refresher courses in modern kitchen operations and hospitality techniques.

  • Expertise: Each unit is led by a Cateress-in-Charge and a Supervisor.
  • Collaboration: Our culinary team works in direct consultation with Hospital Nutritionists to ensure every meal meets the specific clinical and dietary requirements of our patients.

  • Fresh Sourcing: We prioritize local economies by sourcing fresh produce through a competitive and transparent tendering process.
  • Strict Inspection: All supplies undergo a rigorous multi-stage verification by Public Health Officers, the hospital Inspection and Acceptance Committee, and Cateresses before acceptance.
