MTRH Commemorates World Sickle Cell Day

World Sickle Cell Day is commemorated on the 19th June every year. This year’s theme is : “Hope Through Progress: Advancing Care Globally”.

In marking the event, MTRH Hematology Unit supported by Red Cross, and Moi University College of Health Sciences conducted a Blood Donation Drive at Memorial Grounds to create awareness of the disorder and scale up blood and blood products supply in the Hospital.

Speaking at the event on behalf of MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Philip Kirwa, Senior Director Clinical Services (SDCS) Dr. Owen Menach called for re-doubling of efforts in blood drives to save many lives.

This year’s blood drive target staff working at MTRH, Moi University, AMPATH, Kenya Medical Training College and members of the public.

Present during the blood drive were; Hospital Management Team led by Senior Director Clinical Services Dr. Owen Menach, Director Hemato- Oncology Dr. Jesse Opakas, Dr. Festus Njuguna, Dr. Carole Kilach, Dr. Beatrice Melly and members of staff.
