MTRH leads a Medical Camp during Kapkugo Cultural Festival

Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) CEO Dr. Philip Kirwa graced the Kapkugo Cultural Festival at Kapsokwony, Bungoma County, on December 6th, 2024.

Kapkugo Festival is a vibrant celebration of Kalenjin heritage showcasing Kenya’s rich diversity in traditional music, dance, cuisine, and an enriching journey through history and culture. It fosters unity, preservation of traditions, and contributes to local economic growth through cultural tourism.

MTRH, the official healthcare service provider at the event, ran a wellness camp besides supporting locals in enrolling into Social Health Authority’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Scheme.

Over 500 were screened for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), 641 medical cases, and the registration of 1,736 individuals into SHA.

Participants were also sensitized on health seeking behaviour, particularly on prevention/early detection of NCDs and nutritional counselling. Registration was done in collaboration with officials from SHA supported by the Community Health Promoters (CHPs).

Dr. Kirwa lauded the collaborative efforts of training and inclusion of the CHPs in SHA registration using the USSD codes as it broadens the reach into communities while increasing enrollment to the program.

MTRH is leading registration efforts in the Western Kenya Region. The festival and medical camp has been running from 5th December and will end today (Saturday) 7th December 2024.
