IU Health Team Visits MTRH to Advance Leadership Development and Strengthen Health Systems
IU Health continues to strengthen its long-standing partnership with Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), focused on health systems strengthening, clinical excellence, and leadership development.
During a visit from 23rd–27th February 2026, the IU Health team advanced joint initiatives aimed at enhancing organizational performance and transforming patient care.
A key highlight of the visit was the dissemination and validation of findings from the MTRH Organizational Climate and Leadership Priorities Survey conducted between November and December 2025.
The survey provided critical insights into workplace culture, leadership effectiveness, and priority areas for institutional growth.
Through structured engagements, the IU Health team convened MTRH leadership alongside representatives from Moi University, led by Prof. Tenge Kuremu, and AMPATH, led by Prof. Sylvester Kimaiyo, to review findings, foster dialogue, and align leadership development priorities with institutional needs.
Speaking during the visit, MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Philip Kirwa emphasized the importance of strong leadership in driving institutional transformation.
“Our collaboration with IU Health continues to strengthen our capacity not only in clinical care but also in leadership and organizational development. The insights from the Organizational Climate and Leadership Priorities Survey provide us with a clear, evidence-based roadmap for fostering a more responsive, accountable, and high-performing institution,” said Dr. Kirwa.
He further noted: “Sustainable transformation in healthcare requires deliberate investment in people, systems, and structures. By integrating leadership development with broader health systems strengthening efforts, we are positioning MTRH to deliver improved patient outcomes and long-term institutional excellence.”
Led by Dr. Tonya Adams, Vice President for Learning and Development, the IU Health delegation reaffirmed the partners’ shared commitment to evidence-based leadership, data-driven decision-making, and sustainable health systems strengthening.
The collaboration continues to advance resilient leadership structures, innovation, and high-quality care delivery across the region.
