MTRH SUPPORTS COUNTY GOVERNMENT DISASTER RESPONSE FOLLOWING FUEL TANKER EXPLOSION
Uasin Gishu Governor, Hon. Jonathan Bii, today morning visited victims of Thursday night’s petroleum tanker explosion along the Eldoret–Turbo Road, near Paul Boit Secondary School, at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).
He was received by Dr. Andrew Wandera, Senior Director of Clinical Services, and Dr. Tarus Kipchumba, Senior Director of Administration and Finance. He visited patients in the general wards and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where critically injured survivors are receiving treatment.
The explosion occurred following a road accident involving a petroleum tanker. Three people have died, reportedly after attempting to siphon fuel from the vehicle before it ignited.
MTRH has received 22 survivors, 10 of whom are in critical condition, with burns covering 40–50% of their body surface area.
The Governor called on the public to support the victims through blood donation while consoling bereaved families.
Representing the MTRH Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Wandera reaffirmed the Hospital’s continued care to the victims and supporting the County Government’s ongoing emergency response operations.
