ADAR Unit
The unit was started in 2011 as a partnership between MTRH and the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).
The unit offers curative, preventive and rehabilitative alcohol and drug abuse and mental Health services. The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Out-patient service was started in 2017 and runs once a week every Monday. It also serves as a center for clinical placements for both medical and nursing students and interns from neighboring universities and other tertiary colleges. The unit is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team comprising of psychiatrists, nurses, psychological counselors and psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, and support staff.
Currently the unit has a total of 41 beds (8 females and 33 male).
The ADAR out-patient clinic has grown tremendously with attendance quadrupling over the past 5 years from 650 patients in 2017/2018 to over 2000 patients in 2022/2023.
The vision of the Department is to become a Center of Excellence in Clinical Care, Training and Research for alcohol and drug abuse both nationally and regionally.
