NATIONAL ASSEMBLY DEPARTMENTAL COMMITTEE ON HEALTH COMMENDS MTRH FOR PRUDENT BUDGET EXECUTION

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Health has commended Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for prudent budget management and effective utilization of allocated funds.

The Committee, chaired by Hon. Julius Sunkuli, said its visit was part of Parliament’s oversight mandate over Level Six hospitals to assess the implementation of budgets approved by Parliament.

The Committee noted that MTRH had utilized its approved budget prudently.

During the visit, the Committee toured the ongoing construction of the new MTRH Multi-Specialty Hospital and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project, which is expected to be completed by April 2027.

The Chief Executive Officer Dr. Philip Kirwa said several international partners had expressed interest in collaborating with MTRH to advance various health research programmes at the new Hospital.

Addressing the Hospital’s preparedness for Ebola, Dr. Kirwa assured the Committee that MTRH was fully prepared to handle any suspected cases referred to the Hospital.

“We are the main centre in Western Kenya with the facilities for isolation and treatment of cases,” said Dr. Kirwa.

On the availability of resources for emergency response, the CEO said MTRH had received medical commodities from the Ministry of Health to support the management of any reported Ebola cases.
