MTRH marks World Mental Health Day
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) hosted the World Mental Health Day event at Memorial Grounds on 10th October, 2024 under the theme: ” Prioritizing Mental Health at the Workplace.”
Speaking shortly after flagging off the awareness walk along Eldoret City, the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Philip Kirwa highlighted the growing mental health crisis in the country, noting that mental health is a serious issue affecting all sectors.
“We are seeing increasing challenges across age groups and professions, and this must be addressed with urgency.”
The Chief Guest Dr. Edwin Tarno, CEO Kenya School of TVET, represented by Nancy Michelle Engoke lauded MTRH for the collaborative approach to mental health observing that the education sector plays a critical role.
” There is need to implement the policy guidelines on Mental Health and all institutions to prioritize mental health care,” she said.
MTRH CEO urged all institutions to implement Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), emphasizing that organizations must prioritize employees mental well-being.
“EAPs are essential in supporting staff through stress, anxiety among other mental health concerns.”
He thanked the sponsors for their support and stressed the need for continued efforts to improve mental health services.
