MTRH Welcomes New Board Member
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) on Thursday September 18, 2025, welcomed new Board Member, Dr. Issak Bashir, who lauded the Hospital’s commitment to service excellence during his maiden tour.
Dr. Bashir, who visited several Centres of Excellence and specialist units, praised MTRH’s client-centric culture, noting that the model should be replicated across the country’s healthcare system.
Dr. Bashir joins MTRH Board of Management as the alternate to Principal Secretary, State Department for Medical Services, Ministry of Health.
He was received by Director Judith Jerotich, Independent Board Member, on behalf of MTRH Board.
Accompanied by MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Philip Kirwa, Dr. Bashir toured key departments including Informatics, Renal, Oncology, Radiology & Cathlab, Reproductive Health, Neonatal Unit, Pediatrics, and Mental Health Services.
Dr. Bashir singled out the Dr. Edith Kwobah Nawiri Recovery & Skills Centre, emphasizing that similar facilities should be established in all counties to support patients undergoing mental health care.
Dr. Kirwa highlighted ongoing strategic improvements at MTRH, including: Elimination of bed sharing, significantly reducing hospital-acquired infections, Installation of an Oxygen Plant delivering supply directly to every patient bed and Radiotherapy services, which have benefited over 71,000 patients since inception—averaging 100 patients daily.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Bashir commended the teamwork and cohesiveness at MTRH, describing it as the foundation of the Hospital’s unrivalled leadership in specialized healthcare.
