MTRH marks World Antimicrobial Awareness Week
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) joined the rest of the world in marking World Antimicrobial Awareness Week today, November 18, 2025.
The event commenced with a walk through the Eldoret City Streets flagged off by CEO Dr. Philip Kirwa with the aim to raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and promote responsible use of antimicrobials.
The walk was part of activities under the theme : “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future” emphasizing the need for coordinated action against AMR.
”I call on health professionals to champion rational use of antibiotics; every appropriate prescription, every clean pair of hands, and every informed decision contributes to a safer future,” said Dr Kirwa.
This global campaign aims to raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance, a growing threat to health, food systems, environment, and economies.
There is a need for urgent, coordinated action across sectors, both human and animal health.
The goal is to address AMR’s impact on global health, recognizing it’s a shared responsibility requiring immediate, sustained action.
